ZED LIST : THE FLAT FRAME

Turning the chaos off city streets into minimal, geometric art through shadows and motion.

Traditional street photography tells you to chase the crowds and capture the chaos. We do the exact opposite. The Flat Frame is an active, fine-art photography masterclass operating in Nottingham and beyond. We don’t shoot busy faces or confront strangers. Instead, we treat the city as a living canvas-using focal lengths, graphic composition, and intentional camera movement (ICM) to compress three-dimensional urban noise int0 flat, two-dimensional geometric art.

ONE : Isolate the Shadow (The Shadow Border)

  1. Expose for the brightest highlights and let the rest drop into pure, solid black. You will learn to isolate architectural light pools where distracting background noise is erased. The shadow becomes a physical, geometric border that slices the frame.

TWO : Frame the Motion (the Motion Abstract

  1. Move past rigid, tack sharp imagery. We introduce slow shutter speeds and intentional camera movement (ICM) to iron out the busy textures of the city into smooth, abstract bands of light. Faces disappear and moving elements become cinematic streaks.

THREE : Compress the Layer (The Anonymous Subject)

Remove social anxiety completely. By using focal lengths, shooting directly into blinding backlights, or capturing glass reflections, the background and foreground merge. The human subject becomes a flat, anonymous silhouette stamped onto the geometry of the city
